TheCheapTextbook.com Completes First Buying Season

Students saved an average of $45 off textbook MSRP

SEATTLE, November 9, 2012 - The Cheap Textbook website, which launched in August 2012, just completed its first buying season that included students on the semester system starting in August and those on the quarter system starting in September. The buying season for cheap text books continued well into late October. The website had over 3000 visitors during the 3 month buying season.

"I am satisfied with the numbers of the initial launch. The textbook marketplace is extremely crowded with many large players. My initial goals are modest: get the word out, improve the website and help students efficiently find prices for their textbooks," said Ofer Matan, owner of The Cheap Textbook. "It will take time, but my goal is that eventually, The Cheap Textbook.com will become students preferred site for textbook price comparison"

Students wishing to buy textbooks can search all the leading online vendors for the best prices of new, used, rental and e-books. Visitors to the site can do their comparison shopping without visiting each vendor individually. The savings over bookstore costs are significant.

Some additional statistics from the first buying season:
  • 3200 visitors.
  • 17% returning visitors.
  • 12% of comparison shoppers found and purchased the textbook they were searching for.
  • Shoppers saved an average of 51% off their textbook's list price (range 0%-97%).
  • Average dollar savings was $45 per textbook.
